Now taking bookings for 2027 weddings and the coming winter portrait season
Portraits and weddings, made in the long light of the north.
North Photo Studio is Ingrid Solvang's practice in Tromsø — unhurried photography for people, families and the businesses they build. Working here since 2015.
A few frames from the last couple of years
Weddings and elopements, portrait sittings, families, and the occasional job for a local maker or shop. I add a few favourites here after each gallery goes out.
Want to see a full gallery from a wedding or a sitting like yours? Ask, and I'll send one over.
Request a full galleryThe work I take on
Most of the year is portraits and weddings, with brand work filling the quieter weeks. Everything is booked directly with me.
Portraits
Unhurried sittings for one person or two — actors' portfolios, a graduation, a round birthday, or simply a good photograph of yourself to keep. Shot on Sjøgata or wherever the light suits you.
Families
Relaxed sessions at your kitchen table, down on the sand at Telegrafbukta, or up in the birch above town. Newborns welcome, grandparents encouraged, dogs almost compulsory.
Weddings & elopements
A quiet elopement on Kvaløya or a full day with the whole family — documentary coverage, a second shooter when the day calls for it, and a linen album pressed in Oslo.
Brand & commercial
Photography for menus, lookbooks, interiors and the people behind a local business. Half-day and full-day rates, with light art direction if you'd like a hand shaping it.
Headshots
Clean, current headshots that still look like you. Book one slot in the studio, or I'll bring a simple set-up to your office for the whole team in an afternoon.
I photograph people in and around Tromsø.
I trained in visual communication in Trondheim and spent six years lighting stages for a touring theatre company before I moved north. That's still how I work — patiently, and mostly with the light that's already in the room. I started North Photo Studio in 2015, in a small flat above a framer's; today it's a floor of an old merchant's building on Sjøgata, with tall north-facing windows and a view down to the sound.
I shoot every job myself and edit every frame by hand. I'm unreasonably fond of weddings held in bad weather, I'll happily photograph your dog, and I think the best portraits happen about twenty minutes after people forget the camera is there. For larger weddings and brand productions I bring in a small, familiar crew I've worked with for years.

In their own words
Mara & JonasEloped at Fjellheim, spring 2024We flew in from Berlin and got the worst weather of the week — sideways rain, no view, the lot. Ingrid didn't blink. The photographs she made in that storm are the ones we've framed. She felt less like a photographer and more like the calmest friend we had that day.
Henrik NilsenHald & Sønn, TromsøWe rebuilt our whole website around her photographs. Ingrid spent a morning in the workshop, actually understood what we make, and turned it around in under two weeks. We've booked her twice since.
Katrin VargaFamily session, TromsøThree children under seven and one deeply sceptical grandfather. An hour on the beach at Telegrafbukta and somehow everyone looks like themselves. These are the first family photos we've ever actually printed and hung.
Let's talk about your session
Tell me a little about what you have in mind and roughly when. I read and answer every enquiry myself, usually within a day or two. Prefer email? Write to hello@northphotostudio.com. Whatever you send comes straight to my inbox — I only use it to reply, and nothing is stored on this site or shared.
